Solatube Flashing Options

Whatever your roof type, there will be a Solatube^® Daylighting Systems flashing to match.

All of Solatube's flashings are designed to fit quickly and neatly into your roof, ensuring a weather-proof and maintenance installation.

The Solatube roof flashing range covers virtually all UK roof types.

Flashings are fabricated to ensure water tight performance and straightforward installation, with offset upstands to optimize daylight harvesting even on north, east and west facing aspects.

No environmentally-unfriendly lead products are required to install Solatube roof flashings.

In addition, to the standard Solatube roof flashings, bespoke flashings can be supplied for specific commercial roof types/applications.

When selecting your system, simply tell us the type of roof you have and, if possible, the approximate angle and aspect.

The following guidelines are useful when trying to determine the flashing you will require for various types of roof tiles.

Legend of 'Codes':

SP – Slate & Plain Tile (requires Flexseal)
UA – Universal Angled for north, west, east facing roofs greater than 30 degrees
UP – Universal Parallel for shallow or south facing roofs less than 30 degrees
FM – Flat Metal (requires Geocel)

Solatube Extension Tubes

Solatube extension tubes are supplied in 610mm (2ft) lengths.

When assembled, each extension tube is slightly tapered to allow them to telescope together to the exact tube length required.

The 99.7% super-reflective Spectralight^® Infinity material used in Solatube extension tubes means that very effective light delivery is possible with tube lengths of up to 6 metres for the Solatube 160DS, 9 metres for the Solatube 290DS, and 15 metres for the Solatube 330DS.

Spectralight^® Infinity has the highest reflectivity of any commercially-available material in the world - 99.7% - resulting in the brightest, purest light transfer and unmatched colour rendition.

The Spectralight^® Infinity material is permanently fixed with thermoset adhesive to provide permanent bond to a 0.4mm thick aluminium substrate and protected by PET film for long-lasting reflectivity.

Aluminium tape (provided) is used to seal the joins when you telescope the tubes together.

For very long tube lengths we recommend that self-tapping screws (provided) are also used for added rigidity.

The end result is a rigid, robust tube with a super-reflective mirrored inner surface.

Tube reflectivity comparison

Solatube's 99.7% reflective Spectralight^® Infinity tubing ensures that as much daylight as possible is transferred down the tube to the diffuser. The comparison table below shows how this highly reflective tubing plays a critical role in achieving Solatube's unrivalled performance.

Even small differences in reflective values will make a significant difference to the amount of light that is finally delivered. For example, the difference between 99.7% and 98% doesn't sound that great, but when you check the percentage of light remaining after just 20 bounces, you can see that Spectralight^® Infinity delivers almost 30% more light than a 98% reflective material

Solatube Spectralight^® Infinity Adjustable Angle Tubes

0-90 degree adjustable angle

For the Solatube 160DS and 290DS series an optional 0-90 degree adjustable angle is available for applications requiring a more significant change in tube direction (from vertical to horizontal or vice versa).

0-30 degree adjustable angle adaptors

Solatube Daylight Systems use 99.7% Spectralight^® Infinity material in all tubing, reflectors and angle adaptors to ensure no compromise in light transfer. A removable film protects the reflective surface during transit and installation.

The Solatube 330DS series is supplied with two 0-30º adjustable angle adaptors in order to accommodate different roof pitches and to ensure ease of installation around obstacles in the roof void.

Solatube Diffusers

Solatube diffusers are engineered to provide optimal distribution of the significant amounts of daylight delivered by each system.

For the Solatube 160DS and Solatube 290DS series, the Vusion™ diffuser is supplied as standard. This attractive and robust diffuser fits neatly to the ceiling with no visible fasteners, and delivers outstanding natural light diffusion through a frosted prismatic lens.

All Solatube 160DS and Solatube 290DS series diffusers are double-glazed to minimize heat loss/gain, and block virtually all UV transmission.

The optional round OptiView^® diffuser uses a multiple Fresnel lens system to deliver crystal clear daylight and outstanding natural light diffusion

For the SolaMaster 330DS our square OptiView^® diffuser is supplied as standard, and provides a stunning architectural look with its matrix of 36 individual Fresnel lenses. Designed to fit into a standard suspended ceiling grid (600mm x 600mm), light transfer and diffusion is, of course, outstanding.

The SolaMaster 330DS-C features a patented transition box that seamlessly converts the round tubing to a square diffuser. This transition box easily fits into standard commercial grids. The Solatube modular design offers the ability to be reconfigured when spaces need to change. For hard ceilings, the transition box has a sleek, integrated, self-trim feature, eliminating the need for finishing trim work.

The SolaMaster 330DS-O is designed for applications where the Solatube hangs freely from the ceiling. This curved prismatic diffuser is particularly efficient in providing uniform light distribution in open ceiling applications such as warehouses and factories.

Solatube Electric Light Kit

An integral electric light kit is available for both the Solatube 160DS and 290DS. Primarily for domestic dwellings, it offers the convenience of a switched electric light for night time use, reducing the need for two separate ceiling fixtures. (Bulb not included)

Solatube Electric Daylight Dimmer

Low voltage electric daylight dimmer is available for Solatube 160DS, Solatube 290DS, and SolaMaster 330DS.

The daylight dimmer integrates neatly into the tube and and the butterfly valves are controlled via a low voltage wall-mounted pressure switch.

The control switch regulates the amount of daylight coming through the Solatube - fully open, fully closed or any point between.
